When President Roosevelt visited Atlanta, Cla., recently, he met among other notable men, Mr. Joel Chandler Harris, the author of the "Uncle Remus'' stories now appearing exclusively in THE METROPOLITAN MET-ROPOLITAN MAGAZINE. Mr. Roosevelt referred in warm terms lo the pleasure he had received from the "Uncle Remus" tales, which pleasure, he said, he had shared with all his children. "I am rery fond of Uncle B emus. Presidents may come, and Presidents may go, but Uncle Bemus stays put. Georgia haa dono a great many things for the Un ion, but she has never done more than when she gave Mr. Joel Chandl er Harris to American literature. "The best feature of my vis it to Atlanta' continued the President, Presi-dent, "was meeting Joel Chandl er Harris at a luncheon party. By George, that was great! He is a wonderful man. I regard him as ,the greatest educator in the South along the lines -in which he writes. One of the very pleasa nt memories of my Southern trip will have been my association with him." Perhaps the best of the "Uncle Remus" stories appears in the December De-cember (Christmas) Number of THE METROPOLITAN MAGAZINE. MAGA-ZINE. It is amusingly illustrated by A. B. Frost There are twenty ether features in the same issue, including TWELVE PICTURES IN COLOR. The Christmas Metropolitan is for sale by all news dealers t.nd book sellers at . . - 15 CENTS A COPY.
