Show TEN TIMES SENTENCED TO DEATH-NOW FREE. Samuel Greason, colored, is at last out of thejoils. Greason was the sweetheart of Mrs. Edwards, a married woman in Reading, Pa., and when Mrs. Edwards' husband was murdered some years ago, the negro and the woman were charged with the murder. They were readily convicted and sentenced to death. An appeal was taken, a new trial ordered and another conviction followed. Then followed a long, legal battle and, in all, the negro was ten times sentenced to death. a Finally, Mrs. Edwards made an affidavit in which she averred that she, alone, was the murderer of her husband and that her sup- ' posed, accomplice had nothing whatever to do with the tragedy. This opened the pathway of freedom to the negro and he is now "a free man again. The sentence of death upon the woman has been commuted to life imprisonment. Thusvends one of the most noted murder cases of recent years. |
