Irving Howbert, president of the Cripple Creek Short Line railroad,'. and one of the Judges of the reservation 1 drawing, ia in the city and will take a run out to the copper camps before continuing con-tinuing his Journey to the coast to visit the Portland fair. Mr. Howbert is an old-time mining man of Colorado and is one of. the men who has amassed a fortune from the mineral fields of that State, .he having made a goodly part of what he possesses out of the mines of Cripple Creek. He is very much interested inter-ested In the copper mines of this State and especially in the final outcome of the Utah Copper company's properties at Bingham, In which his fellow townsman, towns-man, Charles McNeal, is so heavily interested. in-terested. . Speaking of the rapid strides this property has made in its short history, Mr. Howbert said that it had attracted the' attention of the mining men all over the world and that it was the opinion of the Colorado people that we had in the camp of Bingham one of the largest copper belts in the country. He thinks we will have more of the people of his State seeking ground in this section sec-tion as a rtsult of the unprecedented success that had already been attained by some of the most prominent mining min-ing men In his section of the country. I Klmberly, it has. been the policy of the managers of his estate to close out a number-of his mining Interests ln the West, and In pursuance of this plan an option on the Buckhorn mining properties was given to James A. Butchart, a wealthy mine-owner mine-owner of Duluth, Minn., late' yesterday afternoon. The final payments. on this proposition are to be made within one year, and while the amount Involved has not been made public, it is said to represent upward of three-quarters of a million dollars.
