Why is it when a hostess issues r invitations to a tea and designates desig-nates receiving hours from 3 nntil 6 o'clock, or 4 until 6 o'clock, everyone waits nntil 5 or 6:30 o'clock to arrive, ineon-veniencing ineon-veniencing themselves and their hostess t The hostess and her guest, if she is honoring some- one-witlnhneaTref oredta stand in the receiving line to greet one or two who have enough individuality to come and go as they plesce, and then when the sheep, who are afraid they will miss seeing everyone and being seen by everyone, begin arriving all at the same hour, crowding the sometimes not too spacious drawing and tea rooms to unhealthy and uncomfortable proportions, in hot weather especially, es-pecially, the hostess and her assisting friends are criticised unfairly many times because of the congested condition of the tearooms they were not properly served,' or not at alL One popular matron some time ago issued her invitations from 8 - until - 6 -o'clock,- and -she -explained the unusual hours by saying, "I thought perhaps there might be some like myself who do not enjoy tea right at the family dinner hour, because like-myself many-tther-tio-iiot always have a maid now and it is quite inconvenient for myself and my family to be away at that hour."
