Show Sports Here and There by Al Ablett Our high school team lost its first game in 22 starts last Friday Fri-day to Murray 19 to 14 and in the process they had two toueh-I toueh-I downs called back. This is in no j way an alibi for the boys because they didn't play the ball in the first quarter that they are capable cap-able of playing but they are inexperienced and I think from here in they will be tough. Don't be surprised if they get in the playoff. Utah had their hands full with BYU and without Frank Nelson, the Bingham bullet, the game could have easily went the other way. The score was 26 to 6 but Frank ran for one touchdown from, behind his own goal line, and another for about 65 or - 70 yards. Besides these two long runs the Bullet was a threat on every play. They are touting Frank for all-America and in my opinion he is just that. He can do everything a great back is called on to do kick, run and pass, on offence. On defense he is a deadly tackier, and he has yet to let a pass receiver get behind him. I suggest that the Bingham fans get behind this move and write to some nationally nation-ally known sports writer or just send your letters to the Bulletin and I will see that they go where they will do the most good. What say we have a Bingham boy on the all-American team. We have a couple of boys from Bingham that turned professional profession-al in the boxing game. They both appeared on the last card held in Salt Lake. Max Salazar, fighting fight-ing in the welterweight division, i won a decision and Roland Mat- ! son lost. Both boys look good. I would just like to take this space to give them a little advice. To succeed in the boxing game j means hard work. A boxer must lead as clean a life as a missionary. mission-ary. No smoking, no drinking, no late hours, and training every day. Good luck to both of the boys. Ernie Hunick, the West Jordan boy, stopped Buddy Washington last Monday night, this time in two heats. Ernie has a rematch j coming up with Keith Nuttell. This time they will come in at not over 135 lbs. Some seem to think that when Keith stopped Ernie in their last fight that the West Jordan boy had taken off too much weight. Keith won in Kansas City last week and next week he fights the main event in Chicago. Armstrong, his manager, man-ager, is confident that Keith will be champion in two years. I will say the boy is coming fast. Just a note about some of the boys that have left Bingham for school. Jack Knudsen is playing regular tailback for Princeton prep school. "Buzz" Bush went to Jordan high but we call him a Bingham boy, is playing first string guard on USC freshman team. We all know about Frank Nelson at Utah. Another star at Utah is Clyde Nichols. He is fullback. full-back. Yes, Bingham can be proud of her kids. See you next week. AL . O |
