Show LEGION POST 30 HOST AT ANNUAL DISTRICT MEET Annual convention of American Ameri-can Legion district No. 3 was held in Bingham Canyon June 9 for the purpose of receiving yearly year-ly reports of officers and committees; com-mittees; to elect district commander com-mander and vice commander, who also serve as delegate and alternate to the national convention, conven-tion, and for transaction of other business. The Sugarhouse post No. 65 Drum and Bugle corps paraded from the tunnel to the Civic Center, after which the convention conven-tion meeting was opened by Post Commander H P. Matthews Colors were posted with assist ance of the Drum Corps. District Commander E. D. Mickelsen of Sandy presided. Two vocal duets 1 by Darlene and Maurine Morley, i accompanied by their mother, Mrs. C. A. Morley, were given at both Legion and auxiliary meet-! ings. Elected as new district officers ; were Arthur J. Peters, Murray, as district commander, and Ly- j man Sherwood, Sugarhouse, as i vice commander- Mr. Peters and i Mr. Sherwood will act as district commander and vice commander. Citations were presented posts entitled to such honors. Bingham ; Legionnaires received a citation for participation in World War H Liaison program, an American- ism citation and a certificate of appreciation for sending $15.00 ! for phonograph records for the fighting men. The meeting was turned back to Commander Matthews who called on the drum corps to retire re-tire colors and then closed the meeting. A fine buffet lunch was served by Bingham auxiliary unit No. 30. Mrs. Maude Hocking, unit 1 president, and Mrs. J. Dewey , Knudsen, district president, took charge of the lunch and also conducted con-ducted the district auxiliary meeting. The tables were beautifully beau-tifully decorated and the guests j made to feel very welcome and comfortable. Department Commander Victor Bott and District Commander i Mickelsen commented that the meeting and lunch were the best district activities they had ever attended. The auxiliary met at Masonic-hall Masonic-hall with Mrs. Knudsen presiding presid-ing and 7 of the 12 units of District Dis-trict 3 represented: Salt Lake City, Murray, Sugarhouse, Jordan, Jor-dan, Tooele, Magna and Bingham. District officers in attendance at-tendance besides Mrs. Knudsen included Mrs. Ethel Butt of Salt Lake City, first vice president; Mrs. Hermine Feraco, Copper-ton, Copper-ton, secretary; Mrs. Juanita Buckley, Midvale, historian; Nai-da Nai-da Boyer, Sugarhouse, treasurer; Mrs. Ludean Doran, Murray, Americanism ' chairman; Mrs. Golda McShane, Salt Lake City, president; Mis- Monida Rockwell, Rock-well, Ogden, national committee woman; Mrs. Ethel Tasker, Green River, second vice president; Mrs. Mildred Farrington, Salt Lake City, secretary; Mrs. Helen j Howard. Riverton, historian; Mrs. 1 Melba Bills, Midvale, department child welfare chairman. A special spec-ial guest was Mrs. Marvell Reeves, Reev-es, Ogden, chapeau departmentale of 8 and 40. Mrs. McShane presented seven citations for membership to each unit from the national president. Following elections, these of-i of-i ficers, to be installed in September, Septem-ber, were introduced: Mrs. Fern 1 Jenkinson, Magna president; I Mrs. Irene Brisk, Bingham, first ! vice president; Mrs- Hazel Bird, Midvale, treasurer; Mrs. Juanita Buckley, Midvale, historian. 86 were registered. Mrs. Mabel Jensen, registrar, also decorated the hall as chairman chair-man of hospitality. Three local officers served in district positions: Mrs. Hilda All-1 All-1 mark, chaplain; Mrs. Frances Pumphrey, sergeant - at - arms; Mrs. Deon Hodges, color bearer; Mrs. Vina Ball, pianist. |
