T Thinks It TimeTo TimeTo Time TimeTo To Cleanup Editor Telegram Here is not meant widows' widows weeds but the kind kinc that adorn the vacant city lots and ind neglected properties We Ve have a city ordinance which requires property property prop plOp erty owners to keep their lots clear ar from rubbish and weeds This or ordinance or- or seems to be enforced only in spots and a large number of ol properties appear to be exempt from the provisions of it it You can see soe them all over ever town detracting from the beauty of or the many well kept lawns We Ve have one especially fine tr illustration tion or-Olt or on Fourth South SOUt across the street from the tho home of the city administration A large lot there is covered with Junk and rubbish and weeds several feet feel higi A fire in the weeds would naturally improve th the looks look of the place but it would be a danger to the surrounding properties Why Is this eyesore tolerated right in the center of town 1 May lay we ask if Il the department charged with the enforcement of this ordinance ordinance nance nanco Is indifferent or incompetent tent If U so It ought to be trans trans- to some other department and and a cleanup had both there and other places place where it detracts from the beauty of surrounding lawns We Ve have ha other w weeds eds in the community community com corn namely the Increasing ever-Increasing criminal element and very little effort seems to be made to curb it At the present time the police force Is being employed to teach the citizens citizens citi citi- zens how to walk alk across the street Intersections Occasionally a raid is mad j m on some fellows who sit down and play a game of cards Now and then we hear of a bootlegger bootlegger bootlegger boot boot- legger being taken to the station to deposit a little bail ban and then d to go on his way ing Holdups and burglars seem to toha ha have hae e the freedom of the town Now and then one is caught hauled be before before be- be fore tore the court given a light sentence sentence sen sen- tence which is sometimes suspended suspend suspend- ed before it is served Now r this may be a very humane way war of ot treating criminals but it is rather disgusting to the law-abiding law citizen citi citizen citi zen who has to foot the bill from the time ho is told to stick up his hands until the cost of the penal institutions is assessed him The time is approaching when the vot voters oters rs are to go to the polls They should select representatives with courage and ability to enact laws that will provide p punishment that will fit tit the crime and repeal useless laws jaws that are a Joke and a disgrace to a civilized community Respectfully yours ours S.
