Today, Spring with all its natural nat-ural freshness end exhuberanco, has come again to the golden land of Hellas. The warm breezes play gently over her pastoral Arcadia The red poppies of Attica bloom beneath gray-green olive trees. The branches in the Thessa-lonian Thessa-lonian orchards are now heavy with buds. The season brings the thrill of the music in Greek songs and folk dances. On her face us the smile of! liberation. It is radiant with freedom. It is softened by sorrow and; sweetened by sacrifice She will rise to greater heights of splendor. She will Uve again in the fullness full-ness of her deeds and valor. For the lustre of her historic' fame can never be dimmed. For you, (), Greece, your lang and glorious line of statesmen, philosophers, scientists, poets and artists must be singing a heavenly heaven-ly chorus of halleluiahs. We know that no tyrant ever will. They have demonstrated in the most terrible of all wars that they still possess the flame which made their ancestors transcend ent examples of what the human spirit can achieve. They have emerged triumphant triumph-ant through every test ol fir,, and sword. They require no prophet to predict that the people of Greek antecedents, will continue to exemplify ex-emplify the noblest attributes of man. It was on March 25th, 1821,, that the Greek flag of liberation was unfurled. Her great civilization was darkened dark-ened for four centuries by the clouds of barbarian rule Yet she has never lost faith in! the future destiny of her proud race Her brilliant past, which is studded with every variety of a-chicvement, a-chicvement, has ever kindled the innate patriotism of her people, and their unremitting love for human liberty. Her freedom has sprung from j the very marrows of that nation. It is an hellenic quality. The historical annals reveal that the spirit of democracy found its full fruition and de velopment in ancient Greece. Its grandeur in every domain of human endeavor has never been! excelled. Its polished brow, like that of her Olympian God, was ranked high above the contending forces forc-es that surge below. In spirit of freedom, its love of liberty, music and the arts all the finer impulses of the human heart and mind flourished and blossomed with such a fertility during the ages of Pericles that they have never been exceeded in history. In every period of the long record re-cord of mankind's advance, the people of Greece have played a glorious role-She role-She has been a brilliant light through the centuries, casting its illuminating rays upon the nations na-tions of the world. She possesses a spiritual force that cannot die. Her gallant leaders, true to the tradition of Thermopylae, Marathon, Mara-thon, and Salamis, chose the j path of honor in the last world war. Despots have attempted to subdue sub-due and crush her valiant spirit with hunger, exposure and death. But her unshakeable will to live as a free nation has remained, remain-ed, through all her tribulations, ever steadfast and constant.
