Show TOMORROW IS POPPY DAY I "Honor the war dead and aid j ; the wars' living victims", will be j the theme of the annual observ- J ance of Poppy Day here tomor-1 row. Every person in Bingham j will be asked to wear a memorial poppy tomorrow and to make a contribution for the welfare of the disabled veterans, their fa-I fa-I mi lies and the families of the dead. Preparations for Poppy Day1 were being completed today by a large committee of American i Legion auxiliary women, headed head-ed by Mrs. S. W. Jacques, poppy chairman. Volunteer workers from the auxiliary and cooperating cooperat-ing groups will be on the streets at an early hour tomorrow distribution dis-tribution the poppies and receiving receiv-ing the contributions. "Although thu second World War is glippingrapidly into the ' past, we believe that the mem-1 i ory of the young men who gave their lives in that conflict is still 1 fresh in the minds and hearts of all of us", said Mrs. Jacques, j 1 "The dead of the first World War have been gone for 29 years, yet we remember their service and sacrifice. The poppies which we j will put on tomorrow will show ; that we have not forgotten and are grateful for their defense of, our country. , "We must not forget, either, those who live in suffering and j hardship because of war wounds and illness, the disabled veterans, veter-ans, or their children and the i children of those who have died-The died-The contributions we make for i the poppies go for their welfare, J for help which can come to them only through this means." The poppies to be distributed here have been made by disabled i veterans at Salt Lake Veterans j j hospital. Auxiliary workers will ! all be unpaid volunteers, per- j mitting the full amount of all contributions to go into the auxiliary's aux-iliary's rehabilitation and child ; welfare work, but Harold Ches-1 ler of Princess theatre has of-! j fered each child participating a j free matinee ticket. |
