No effective vaccine has been found that will give a permanent perman-ent immunity against measles; however, a temporary immunity may be established through the early administration of immune j serum globulin. This is especially espec-ially recommended for children in the preschool age group m which the incidence rate of pneumonia pneu-monia following measles is high. The measles situation is apparently ap-parently reflected in the number num-ber of cases of pneumonia reported re-ported for the week. Of a total of 25 cases of pneumonia reported report-ed for the week, 13 were reported report-ed from Piute county. Of the 25 cases of pneumonia, 17 were children chil-dren under 13 years of age It is not uncommon for pneumonia to develop in a youngster who has had a severe attack of measles - HEALTH I NEWS According to communicable 1 j disease reports from local health j officers and physicians for the : week ending April 12, measles! still holds the spotlight in the health picture of the state. A to-1 tal of 555 cases was reported for the week as compared with 522 1 for the previous week. The incubation period of measles meas-les varies between 8 and 12 days with an average of 10 days. The symptoms are those of a common cold with sore throat, sneezing, redness of the mucous ! membranes and cough. The temperature tem-perature usually varies between 102 and 104 degrees. The rash as a rule appears 2 to 3 days after the onset of symptoms and usually us-ually covers the entire body.
