Show HEALTH NEWS A total of 385 resident cases of communicable diseases was reported re-ported to the state department of health by physicians and local health officers for the week ending end-ing January 24, as compared to 351 cases for the previous week. Chickenpox, influenza, and mumps showed an increase the past week. One diphtheria case was reported re-ported during the past week from Tooele county. All infants six months of age or older and preschool pre-school children should be immunized immu-nized against diphtheria. See your family physician now if your children have not already been immunized. Two cases of septic sore throat were reported one a nonresident nonresi-dent case and the other a resident resi-dent case from Sanpete county. Two cases of malaria fever were reported during the past week. Both were contracted outside out-side this country. Six cases of ringworm of the scalp were reported during the past week four from Cache and two from Utah county. Totals for the week are: chickenpox, chick-enpox, 190; diphtheria, 1; influenza, in-fluenza, 39; measles, 5; German measles, 4; mumps, 79; pneumonia, pneu-monia, 10; scarlet fever, 24; septic sep-tic sore throat, 2; gonorrhea, 13; syphilis, 13; malaria, 2; ringworm of the scalp, 6; and cancer, 1. |
