| Show VOICE OF THE PEOPLE By Telegram Readers Cant Can't Anything Be Done About Rod Hot-Rod Cops Editor Telegram I have been reading your series of articles on safe driving and find them very interesting After a recent experience experience experience ex ex- ex- ex I wonder why the Salt Lake police do not follow the rules of safe and sane driving The other afternoon a group of ot girls from the office where I work decided to go out for a snack We Ve started to cross 2nd West est at 1st South when two of officers officers officers of- of in a police cruiser coming north on 2nd West est turned on their siren and shot through the red light We e all had to jump out of their way The officers apparently thought that it was wasa a great joke for their slowed down and laughed at us Then they slowly continued cruising along 2nd West WestI I realize that there are occasions occasions occasions occa occa- when the time element isan isan is isan an important factor in police work and that it is necessary for the police to cut through red lights but this was not the case We Ve noticed the car as we were crossing the street and the police police police po po- lice didn't start to speed up and turn on the siren until we were half way across the thc street After they reached the intersection they slowed down to normal cruising speed Does this sound as if there was an emergency I doubt it If a civilian were to do that we could report it to the police department but what recourse is there for a group of pedestrians pedestrians pedestrians when a couple of rod hot-rod drivers in police uniform use such tactics Mrs Eleanor F.
