D S. S Kwak to marry his Japanese sweetheart Toriko Kwak met Miss in Tokyo while he was serving with the U. U S S. S army of occupation They fell fen in love and became became became be be- came engaged That was vas two and a half years ago and Kwak has since been studying at B Y U to be a teacher The two wished to marry but the law stood in their way Now congress has granted special permission for Kwak to bring his fiancee to the United States which he hopes to do in time for marriage this June He will viII then graduate at B Y U and take his bride to Hawaii where he intends to teach school This is more than an interesting yarn with a Utah angle It is a story which indicates indicates indicates in in- a basic difference between the American democratic way of life and the Russian communistic way We Ve think that human beings as individuals are so important important important im im- im- im that the state can and should stop in its ponderous course to help them find happiness The state under our system system system tem is set up to serve the people The pursuit of happiness is in truth an inalienable American right Can you imagine the whip-cracking whip Russian government doing something like that for the benefit of two insignificant human beings Russia does in fact just the opposite It forbids Russians to leave the country to be with their alien wives or husbands much less to marry a sweet sweet- heart The state under the Communist system is supreme and people are in the world to serve the state There is no state concern with human dignity or happiness happiness happiness happi happi- ness or love The great difference between the two systems of society is this Democracy's aim is to serve the happiness and welfare of the people Communism's aim is to serve the power and glory of the state |
