| Show 0 1 THE TEEN SET SET Autograph rs Loved By Some Bore to Others By BETTY BETZ r r. r Betty we sure feel sorry forthe forthe for forthe the movie stars who visit New NewYork NewYork NewYork York when they get mobbed by autograph hounds wherever they go said Gertrude Westfield who had art an occasion to see poor Burt Lancaster hop over two parked automobiles to escape about a hundred boys and girls after his radio broadcast Yes what's the fun of chasing after celebrities anyway anyway any any- way asked sister Ann and then we concocted a scheme to find out what the big thrill was to a certain gang of kids who hang around the better hotels and restaurants waiting for glimpses of stars Gert and Ann made the rounds last Saturday afternoon just to find out how each celebrity reacted to these autograph who are probably very important to some stars and a pain in the neck to others Bette Davis rolled up the taxi window when the kids mobbed her in front ont of the Hampshire house and when they called heron heron her heron on the phone she slammed the therece rece receiver ver said salt Ann She added that maybe Miss Davis was tired of being being famous Herbert Marshall smiled and acted very nervous but didn't give any autographs And Van Heflin ran down the street like a rabbit trying to get getaway getaway getaway away laughed Gertrude But Linda Darnell was wonderful wonderful won won- said Ann I dont don't know how she stood it but she gave out autographs to every everyone one and when four kids followed her in a taxi to her hotel she gave them autographs and a dollar to pay for carfare back Then they told me how pretty and friendly Elizabeth Taylor was just before before before be be- fore she sailed for England and even took time to let the kids interview her for their high school papers I gather that Vera Ralston was very nice too and pas passed sed out large autographed autographed auto- auto graphed photographs photograph in spite spite- of the fa fat fact t that she was in agony with a a painful toothache I asked the girls if they would like to have fans follow them all over town I guess it might be fun for awhile said Ann but it would get pretty nerve wracking as a steady diet You said it added G Gert rt and after seeing what they go through I dont don't envy them so much any more |
