Show A Fine Fire Loss Record YUE and that all of did us-did did and yE means us a splendid job fob in holding forest and brush fire losses to a minimum in Utah this past season Despite Despite Despite De De- spite very great fire hazard actually at one period the greatest ever recorded by the forest forest forest for for- est service total area burned over in the state 1 in 1942 was acres compared with 1837 acres in 1941 and acres in 1940 1910 This fine record was revealed in the annual fire statistics report just issued by J. J E. E Gurr su supervisor of the Wasatch national forest The record showed there were more fires this past summer but that they were riot not as serious and did not cover cover nearly as large a total area as asin asin asin in the two previous years Considering the fact that the past summer was very dry with other weather conditions presenting an extremely high hazard that this season we had lost the valuable services of fire fighting crews from C C C camps and that there was an present ever-present threat of incendiary fires set by saboteurs it is a remarkable rec rec- rec- rec ord Much credit must go to the members of the forest service and to city county and state groups which cooperated in fire prevention activity But credit is due also to every Utahn who visited or drove through our mountains and canyons canyons and and that should include just about everyone Patriotic extra caution on the part of the public and patriotic extra alertness on the part of officials interested in fire prevention combined combined combined com com- to establish this fine record Congratulations Congratulations I lations everybody |
