| Show yr 5 x J S Sat at r r K J R a y v U n r 4 J Y a. a 1 t J 9 W Dan Dailey Jr Mutual admiration society of which he is a member clicked Mutual Society Lands Quartet in ih Movies By Dy TED GILL HOLLYWOOD Wide World World World-A A quartet of aspiring young oung Thespians has come up with a novel device device device-a a sort of mutual ad ad- society to to land them all jobs in the movies Three men and a girl who compose compose compose com com- I pose this ingenious hard working group which teamed together in New York five years ago finally have reached their picture goal with the signing of ot the fourth member Gracie McDonald to a studio contract we U Gracie's Grades brother Ray and two other dancers Johnny Mattison and Dan Dailey Jr are the male contingent They call themselves Three Smart Boys and a a Girl Five years ago Gracie and Ray weren't working steadily vaudeville vaude ville vine dance skits being what they were They kept in practice by rehearsing at the dance studio of ot ofa ota a friend Mattison Formed Fanned a a- Pact t 1 There nere they met et young Dailey and in iri time d de deciding Iding they all had much in common they formed a pact that each would boost the others whenever possible In making their rounds of the booking agencies for Instance Gracie and Ray would meet a casting director a movie director or a producer and would bend his ear with praises of Dailey And when Dan or Johnny met some influential showman they'd shoot the works in a up build-up for Gracie and Ray A cardinal rule was that they never plugged themselves themselves them them- selves individually One day Johnny learned that Dwight Deere Wiman was casting the show Babes in Arms so he got busy boosting the stock of Gracie Ray and Dan and maneuvered maneuvered maneu maneu- vered all three into the cast After seven months however the show closed and things got going from bad to worse Dangot Dan Dangot Dangot got a part in another how but it was a flop and Gracie and Ray connected with another but it too folded One day however the tide turned Dailey got a job with a road show and Gracie landed several attractive bookings at night club clubs club Each Helps Others When Dailey's road show hit Hollywood a talent scout spotted him and signed him him- to a studio contract Dan then interested an agent in Ray and before long he too had haa a movie contract They did the same for Johnny So Gracie decided it was time that she shoe too headed west One of Mattison's first assignments assignments assign assign- ments was as dance director at Universal for a musical picture in n which he needed a girl who could sing act dance like a sprite and who was beautiful He convinced convinced con con- vinced the studio Gracie was the girl for the role Today three of the four youngsters youngsters young- young are working in the same picture Give Out Sisters which features the Andrews Sisters Johnny does the dance numbers Gracie has the romantic lead and her leading man is Dan Ray would have been in the picture too but hes he's doing so well at another studio he decided to stand tand pat |
