toward a new neighborhood with the excitement of meeting strange janitors strange superintendents superintend superintend- and strange corner druggists druggists drug drug- and butchers This Irresistible urge to move does not make the New Yorker happy His roots sink fast and andin andin andin in the year he has lived in the apartment he must leave he has learned to love it He has the same affection for it t that hat other men have for the old family homestead Everything about it is so familiar He cherishes the stately cop copon copon copon on the corner just as a Hoosier does the old sycamore on the lawn He knows that 1150 in inthe inthe inthe the morning is the only time the sun strikes the living room with sufficient force to warrant turning off the lights He also knows that the superintendent always has a beer at the corner tavern between 5 and 6 and that it is safe then to take the pup for a romp on the roof of the building He knows just how far to turn the hot and cold coldwater coldwater coldwater water faucets on the bathtub to draw a perfect bath He likes the view from his living room window because it commands a view of the Smiths' Smiths living room across the court and the toe Smiths give the best parties of any family in the building Its It's tough on New Yorkers to pull up these seated deep-seated roots product of a whole year of living in one place The
