Crime Hoaxes Are No Joke POLICE pOLICE hard at work trying to trap Salt L Lake City's vicious killer killer bandit bandit who has at attempted at- at been responsible for a wave of murder 1 tempted murder and robbery have charged that their efforts have been impeded by two hoax hoa robbery reports One was a report by Dean A. A Jensen of Castle Dale that he had been robbed of 5 his at gunpoint The other shoes shoes' and his glasses Fawcett of Salt Lake Merlin was was a report by City that he had been accosted by a presumably ably armed bandit and robbed of 30 cents In I said the hoaxes were adf ad- ad both cases police f l' l Chief of Police Reed E. E after the exposed declared that such second ho hoax x was fake reports of robbery seriously interfere with police efforts and warned that in the future future fu future fu- fu ture any perpetrator of such a hoax would be jailed The chief is absolutely right Fake robbery robbery robbery rob rob- bery reports at any time are no joke joke and and at ata ata ata a time tune like this when the authorities are bending bend bend- j ing g an their efforts to catch a vicious criminal criminal criminal crim crim- inal they are a menace Checking up on such reports takes time and is apt to mislead police sending them on ona ona ona a wild goose chase after some nonexistent bandit when they should be concentrating their efforts on the capture of the real crim- crim inal No decent citizen with a regard for public pub pub- lie lic safety would hinder the police in such fashion The way to stop such puerile ideas of f fun is as Chief proposes t to send such uch dangerous pranksters to jail
