Soviet Russia Calls the Tune MRS ELLA REEVE BLOOR old year communist communist com corn lyl leader who r recently visited in Salt Lake City attacked American aid for Britain Ina banquet She speech declared It is un unnecessary unnecessary un un- necessary and unwise for for- America to sacrifice the lives of thousands of her young men in an attempt to preserve a dying undemocratic em em- pire Ignoring the fact that as yet we haven't been doing any such sacrificing and do not Intend intend intend in In- tend to do so unless we are forced to by the totalitarian nations there is one fundamental fallacy in this communist veterans veteran's argument We are not trying primarily in our aid to Britain program to preserve the British em em- pire If that were our main objective we will concede it could be justifiably attacked as un Un- wise The fact is however that our primary interest is rather preservation of freedom in inthe the world and the prevention of nazi dori domination domina nation na- na tion of the world We don't dont care particularly about the British empire as such But we do care about the way of life the philosophy of government trade and international relationships which the British British Brit Brit- ish empire of today stands for lor We are concerned concerned con con- I not with the threat of destruction of the British empire but with the threat of construction construction con of a German empire in Europe on the se seas seas s and in the world at large which willbe will willbe willbe be unalterably opposed to everything that we believe belleve in It Just so happens th that t preservation of the British empire coincides with preservation preservation preservation tion of freedom and democracy and prevention of domination in the world Probably one ne should really ignore the expression expression ex ex- of opinion on international affairs by communists communist in this country They do not speak their own minds They do not speak as Ameri Amen cans They are simply echoing the international policies of ot soviet Russia It suits Russia's purpose purpose pur pun pose today oday to side with Germany Today Russia watches gleefully as the hated capitalist democracies democracies de de- de- de of the world totter under the blows of German Tomorrow it may be a different story But whatever the tune the soviet imperialists imperial imperial- call you can be sure all of Russia's little communist stooges in in inthe the world will dance obediently to it
