A Ent Eaton n principal l of the high school this mornin morning I Permit mo me to call your attention to the WRETCHED TRANSPORTATION AND ACCOMMODATION FURNISHED BY DY THE CONSOLIDATED RAILWAY COMPANY I have referred In my annual report to tho conditions ns prevailing last year This perhaps has hns not came c come me to your mention yet Last I wrote to to Superintendent nt Read Rend and asked him to help us if possible He replied saying that he would look looh into into the matter and do what he could However very very little was done This year transportation was Ds bad nd to begin with ond Ind nd rapidly became worse until at at pres present nt it seriously interferes with tho the work of tho the school I III HAVE EXAMINED CAREFULLY AND FIND THAT OVER DO 00 PER PER- PERCENT CENT OF THE TARDINESS IS NOT DUE TO ANY FAULT FAULT OF THE PUPILS BUT ENTIRELY TO THE INSUFFICIENT TRANSPORTATION TION FACILITIES Pupils leave homo home before 8 S o'clock in many cases and arc are unable to make connections or get a c car car r th that t twill will bring bring- them to school or it is the lithe car Cal off oft the track or the lithe power is off or they wouldn't stop for us etc I III havo have not written to Superintendent Read this year thinking it better that the matter be brought to his attention through your office since these uns unsatisfactory conditions must affect all the schools more or less I Ido Ido Ido do not know what can be done but I sincerely trust that it may be oe possible to improve these conditions IF IF THE RAILWAY PEOPLE ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN ALL I WISH WISE TO SAY IS THAT T THEY EY S Sh SHOULD t D GET OUT OF THE BUSINESS FOR IT IS AN IMPOSITION UPON THE PEOPLE OF SALT LAKE TO ENDURE THIS INJUSTICE |
