D A. A Skeen had pressed for the project which has been discussed in n past years W. W D. D Hammond road commission commission commission commis commis- sion member and Ezra C. C Knowlton engineer said the commission looks upon the project with favor but will not act as a spearhead to drive it through The road commission In Jn a letter to the city commission said it would seek to have the project placed on the 1939 federal aid program if the city will assume responsibility of moving back curbs and gutters and possibly sidewalks so all available space could be used for traffic The city commission would also assume responsibility for removal of trees and other obstructions Mr Hammond and Mr Knowlton said the project could be submitted to the United States bureau of public pub pub- lie lic roads soon after the first of the year after the secretary of agriculture agriculture agriculture agri agri- culture has allotted road money First however way rights-of-way and other matters must be disposed of they explained The proposal Is Js to widen State street between South Temple and North Temple streets 14 feet on the west side Widening from North Temple street to the capitol would be six feet on each side Eagle Gate would be raised and its arms extended to care for the widening The gate itself would not be damaged it was pointed out The Brigham Young wall on State street near South Temple street would be set back I The city commission referred the road commission letter to Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commis Commis- John B.
