S ALLEN W WASHINGTON WASHINGTON Much Much is being said by both major parties about unemployment relief but there is one group of unfortunates that has not even been mentioned They are transient jobless jobless homeless homeless men women and children the real forgotten men men men- numbering between and Until a year ear ago they were included in the federal relief rebel program but when the works progress administration was set up they were turned back on the states and communities Most of these units already overburdened with financial financial finan linan- cial difficulties set the transients adrift During the spring and summer they wandered wandered wan wan- dered over oyer the highways eking out an existence In their own mysterious manner But with winter winter win win- ter coming on they are heading south in great numbers W P A authorities s are fully lully aware of ol the poignant nant rant transient problem but under the presidents president's presidents president's dents dent's work relief policy polley have no funds to do anything about it A large proportion of these wanderers are youths and come within the employable employable employable em em- category But they are unable to get W P A jobs because they have no fixed resi dence and local relief relie officials have more than enough on their hands finding work for their own needy idle The U.
