Show Plan to o Collect Retail Sales Tax Gets Dealers' Dealers Okeh Proposal Proposal Approved Approved in Other r Cities Will Co Go to Tax Commission A plan whereby the state would print and sell to licensed retailers retailers' stamps in the denominations of Currency Cur cur currency ur- ur rency rency from 1 cent to 1 as a means ol ot handling the sales tax which goes into effect June 1 was unanimously adopted Thursday by the local retail I merchants at a meeting at the cham chain berof ber o ot commerce The plan which has hIlS already met the approval of f merchants in Ogden Logan Provo Brigham City and in several other cities in the state will be forwarded to the state tax lax commission com corn mission according to R. R H. H Butler secretary o of the retail trades committee commit tee of the chamber of ot commerce The plan embodies the following proposals 1 The stamps shall shan be bc besold sold to lo the public through the licensed retailers rs at t the rate of three fourths of 1 per percent percent percent cent of their face value 2 When making payment for any purchase the customer shall pay in addition to the purchase price an equal amount of state r revenue venue stamps 3 In case case of a sale upon credit a contract for sale wherein it is provided provided provided pro pro- vided that the purchase pI price ce shall be paid in instalments and title does not pass until a future date or condi condi- when there shall b be paid upon each payment of the thc purchase price an equal amount of ot revenue stamps 4 Every person receiving any payment payment payment pay pay- ment or consideration upon a sale of property or service subject to the tax under the provisions ns of the legislative legislative legisla legisla- tive ac act or to whom such payment or consideration Is payable herein called the vender shall shan be bin ble for the collecting of the amount of the tax imposed on said sale This last Jast provision as contained in the act shall be so interpreted as to pro hibit venders from advertising or do do- ing lag anything contrary to the rules and regulations for collection of the tax as determined by the state tax commission ion 5 The act provides for or a monthly lem remittance of ot taxes collected to the state tate tax commission Remittances Remittance may be made in either or both state i f revenue v ve u ue St stamps a and d United l S States Slates fa currency 6 The application of ot the state revenue stamps to the functioning of this act shall shaH in jn no manner eliminate th the vender from the responsibility of ot paying a full tax three of 1 per cent of the total sales made durin during dur dur- in jag ing any period 7 Revenue stamps shall shan be prepared prepared pre pee pared in bound books books' of 20 value Stamps when detached from book shall be considered canceled In presenting this proposal of of a means of handling the tax it is t the e general consensus of ot Salt Lake m merchants merchants mer mer- r- r chants that this plan will provide an n efficient and practical method for both the state and the retailers in making collection of or the tax according according according accord accord- ing to Mr Butler Butter |
