S S S S I TO CALL IT A DAYI DAY Dear ear Miss Blair I work In an office ollice to which a traveling man com comes four lour or five times rues a year ear lie He has been coming Cor or a 3 number of ye years as u Ion long asI as asI I have there and maybe longer lODger He lie Is a n. married man with children and Is true to his wife in ins his s fashion yet ct until last week Iam I II Im am m about the only girl In the whole firm rm that he hasn't taken to theaters r dinners wh when n he comes to town lie 0 also buys bus nice little gifts for the girls iris They have all aU compared notes and gUts gifts and his line and it totals U up i to be about th the same same thing for each ich lie He is flirtatious makes each S girl rl feel that she has baa conferred a S aS special boon upon him by acom S him to shows sho and dinners while he is b in town yet ct when the danger anger line lino approaches and they begin ben be be- gin n to really fall faU for him ho draws the he line Une and picks some other girl Now the last time he came to town I was his choice I really didn't care about going out with him I knew so 50 much about him that I couldn't veil even warm up to his old flirtatious line inc When he told me inc he had never ever met nut a 3 girl just like mo me before before be- be fore ore it was was all I could do to keep from om laughing In his face bce but of course I couldn't be so 10 rude I Ire re refused reused re- re fused used to let him hint buy me gifts I dont don't have lave any more that the thc other girls h have vc but a a. gift from a man I despise down own in my heart couldn't mean a aIng athing athing thing Ing to inc me But heres here's the funny thing lie ne finally nally c caught onto the fact fad that I Iwas was WL as terribly bored with him and arid I never saw anyone try so pitifully hard lard to be the kind of man I ImagIne Imag Imag- inc Ine nc he really was underneath I had hado to o try to make isbn him think that ma may be c after all he was a pretty decent scout out and that there were plenty of ways of or spending his time pleasantly away vay from home other than by talc take lug Ing g girls girls' out cut But heres here's the tho funny tunny thing Since he helas has las gone I have ha had two notes from fromm him m telling me what a Do wonderful girl rl I am and that he will be eternally ally ly grateful to me mc for lor making him see ce himself as he was He ne hopes he may nay see me when he comes again I fear this hints that lie be Ie will vill want more of my company I think I could do o wonders for him but then there I am filling in the role of the vamping female again only doing it In my particular wa way How lIow can I call It a day with him and id not offend him How lIow can I let him im know that by wanting to see mc me he is defeating the very strength I suggested he should achieve ROXY By telling him so Roxy You I Imay may have the opportunity to do so next next time his rounds bring him your youry wa way y But dont don't lay on the moralizing too oo thick or you OU will defeat your jour our pur- pur pose ose He will want to tell you that his wife wile doesn't understand him m and that i if there were were only a gIrl Irl like you whom he could see seend and nd write to he could b be the man manic he be ic was intended to be You should be able ble to keep your sense ense of humor about that situation The he task wont won't be so hard providing you ou keep your head and sense of humor You cm can more often jolly jollyman a man out of an obsession than you youcan can ean an preach him out o of it il The time the he occasion the events that come along long naturally should aid you ou in making him see sec your point of view S BREAKFAST ROOM ROmU IN WHITE I IDear Dear car Miss 1155 Blair I 1 am going to have my breakfast nook ook repainted At present it I is too dark ark and gloomy I would like It done one all In white but my ny my husband thinks white looks too funereal Can you ou give me an idea as to whether or r not it would b be preposterous s for tor me meo meto meto to o go 0 ahead and have it done in white Many lany thanks QUIEN SABE A breakfast room with willi white walls and curtains of fine white cat cal al gauze would be handsome Paint the he breakfast table and chairs chairs- white too op Almost any rug will go well with white while but a pastel colored one in green or yellow is most striking New breakfast dishes are arc sive alve Ive this year caI and if you choose a pattern that carries out the color scheme o of the rug you will find th that hat t the little breakfast nook will be bea a place where early morning blues are re dispelled EIGHTH GRADE BLUES BLUE Dear Miss liss' Blair I am a girl In hi the eighth grade rade I Ilove Ilove Iove love ove to dance and to go gO to parties yet while hUe the other girls get et dates and go out I have to sit around home Ca an you tell teU why this is so The boys treat me all aU right th though they nver n ask me rae to go 0 out with them J I hope tope yo you can tell me the reison reason for this his I am not bad looking NITA Nita perhaps you have not d a friendliness friendliness' between yourself your our self sell and nd certain nice boys boys of of whom your parents would approve Boy S S S I like girls whose homes homes' they can visit and who have a friendly reaction re rc action without any of ot this pairing off olL In mind Once this homey friendliness friendliness friend friend- liness is established with a girl and her family you know the kind which bids a boy welcome and invites him to help solve the tho saw jIgsaw puzzle the very first time an eighth grade boy wants to take t. a girl to a movie which wont won't be often he will ask the one he knows in this nice friendly fashion So first thing you have to do is to invite both girls gIrl and boys to your home not especially for tor a party though it might be nice to start with witha a party but just for lor fun You may havo nothing to do but play the piano and sing a few popular songs or maybe go in the kitchen and make chocolate and sandwiches or orall orall all really take a hand at the ever- ever present saw jig but whatever you do will be informal You will say the natural things that come to your minds to say you will giggle and mostly just fool around but It Is just such times as these that arc are usually the best Try Tr to adopt this kind of Informal hospitality among your friends and you will vill never be found round sitting at home when the others arc are somewhere having a good time S DRESS FOR LUNCHEON EON Dear Misi 1 Blair I am Invited d to a luncheon where S women whom I shall be very proud to meet will b be assembled I have quite an elaborate afternoon dress and an ensemble of good cloth the lines JInes of ot which are quite plain Yet it is good rood looking on me Which of the two shall I wear Thank you ou IANTHA A fairly safe rule to follow when In doubt as to which dress to wear is to wear the simpler It shows much better taste to be under dressed than over dressed U MILDEW 1 STAINS Dear Miss Ibs Blair Please tell me inc what will remove mildew
