U Ca Carnival PROVO April 22 Graceful 22 Graceful dancers from Bingham high school won two of the three contests in the opening g event of the Brigham Young university university uni uni- annual relay carnival The other dance was won by Jordan high 1 school girls I Miss Emma Howell of Bingham was I awarded the tap dancing contest scaring scoring scar scar- ing 83 points and barely nosing out Mildred Williams of Spanish Fork who placed second with a total of 82 3 2 points Other tap dancers that I finished near the top were Ruth Mitchell and Hel Helen n Winkler of Jordan Jordan Jor Jor- dan who scored 76 points and MarYi Mary Woolton Wootton of Bingham who scored 75 points Miss Jewell Thompson of Bingham won the national dancing contest with I her interpretation of a Hungarian gypsy scoring 74 points Miss Ruth Mitchell and md Miss Helen Winkler of ot Jordan won first place in inthe inthe inthe the natural dancing contest scoring 80 points Miss Fern Van Tromp of Bingham was was' was was' a close second with 75 points S All of ot the dances were well presented pre pee pee-i seated and arid it was with considerable difficulty that the judges were able to r select the winner The dances I on four four- fourpoints points creative interpretation technique and finish Twenty five points were given for perfection perfection per per- in each of the four phases The judges of the dancing contest were Miss Alene Coleman and Mrs Alonzo Morley of Provo and Miss Mary Winters of Salt Lake |
