SAFETY BARRIERS THE Ni N safety zones were established in Salt Lake City the underlying idea was to protect persons standing within them Even the row of metal buttons fortified by law seemed to afford ample security but now and then a reckless or drunken driver sent his automobile careening into the safety zones leaving a trail of death and injury Jury Following the lead set by many other cities Salt Lake then Installed barriers calculated calculated calculated cal cal- to give added security to persons standing within the zones Some of these barrIers barriers barriers bar bar- have been struck by reckless auto drivers drivers ers with fatal results to themselves Now and then erring motorists have escaped injury But at atall t all times those standing within the zones have received adequate protection Auto drivers who steer their cars at safe speed carefully through the streets may never meet up with up-with with the safety barriers but there are others who ha have v Jn n In fact they appear to resent the barriers for they thet have filed claims with the city for damages and injury When the barriers made barriers made of solid soUd concrete con con- crete were crete were installed there was no invitation to reckless drivers to try them out They were Installed to protect the innocent and nd punish the reckless driver Yet the city equipped them with warning lights and sig signals v However there are some who would run over anyone standing in their path and speed aw away y while others try to run over the protecting barriers get hurt and make claim lalm upon the city for damages
