C Denies Application tion for Increase From Mines to Smelters Here WASHINGTON Jan 27 7 AP AP- AP The Interstate commerce commiSsion commission commis commission commis- commis sion today refused refused to allow West Western estern est em ern railroads to Increase rates on on mineral ores moving to Utah and California smelting plants pants p ants from mines In Nevada California and Utah Last October the railroads s filed complicated schedules altering the present ore rates to a number of smelters where the ore is c customarily customarily cus cus- s- s reduced to its metallic content The commission refused to allow ai- ai al- al low the Increases to become Im Immediately Immediately Immediately Im- Im mediately effective and instituted an investigation which terminated today with the statement that th- th tl th railroads had wholly failed to Justify justify Jus jus- any substantial proportion of alterations they had contemplated Utah smelters' smelters efforts to obtain as mt much ch ore from Nevada as possible possible possible pos pos- pos pos- sible would have been dealt a Severe se severe severe se- se vere vere blow if the rate increase nad been allowed said A.
