S g n Above are the coaches of the four largest high schools in Utah Utah- Ogden Provo West and East who East who all hail from the Payson high school school In the upper right hand corner is Glen Simmons Provo mentor mentor mentor men men- tor in the upper left is rs Bert Ballard new basketball coach at the West High sch school ol in the lower left smallest but with the best record is Dixon Kapple of Ogden high school while Lee Simmons East High basketball instructor is found ts-found found in the lower right hand corner Payson Ex-Payson Boys Make Excellent Showing as Athletic Directors PAYSON PATSON Dec 12 The The Payson I high school here boasts of ot a great record in having the coaches of ot the I four our largest high schools in Utah hall hail from the Payson school DIxon Kapple of ot Ogden Glen Simmons of ot Provo Bert Ben Ballard of West Vest and andLee andLee andLee I Lee Simmons of East all were once I athletic stars at the Payson school Now they are directing the basketball basketball basketball basket basket- ball teams at t th the four big schools That is quite a record to boast of ot for tor pot not ot only are these men coachIng coaching coach- coach Ing Ink at these schools but they hav have already made wonderful showings in their pro professions and have brilliant brilliant bril bril- Hant futures The men represent the cream of ot the athletes who have attended the local high school All made excellent excellent excellent excel excel- lent records while here wonderful I records in college and have turned j out a 3 good many championship teams since that time I The record of ot Bert Ballard who his first season as asa asa asa a coach of ot a high school hoop quint stands out equal with the rest In Inthe inthe the athletic competition although he has not yet had time to make any sort of ot a record as an athletic director I Ballard was a letter four-letter man atthe atthe at atthe the Payson high school taking part partin in basketball ll baseball tr track ck and andi football In 14 15 16 16 and 17 He lie graduated from Payson In Ip the spring of ot 1917 Ballard entered the University of ot Utah In 1918 midyear and was elected captain of ot the fresh frosh hoop quint He lie worked his way v y through college so had ha only part time for athletic competition but was a a. member of the varsity toot football ball squad for three years and helped win three collegiate track meets during that time In 23 1922 Ballard coached the South junior high school Isis Ills teams won the track and baseball titles two seasons In succession along with for tor honors in 1923 Glen Simmons was another four- four letter man while at the Payson high school participating In all four major sports for lor four tour years with the exception of ot toot football ball which was Inaugurated but two seasons be before before be- be fore tore his graduation He lie was captain captain captain cap cap- tain and halfback on the grid team for tor the two seasons lIe He was chosen state all-state forward In basketball competition competition com corn I petition in 1915 1315 I Simmons graduated from Payson i and entered the B B.
