| Show COST OF LIVING STILL AVIATING NO SIGNS SIGHS OF MISHAP OR FALL FALLI I high cost of living is still T THE soaring Food prices in Salt Lake show an increase of about 4 per cent for April 1919 as compared with March 1919 according to the official report of prices and cost of living of the bureau of labor statistics of the United States department of labor The greatest commodity showing m an increase in Salt Lake is oranges a raise of 66 cents a dozen being noted Next comes coffee with butter rankIng ranking ranking rank- rank Ing third Beef shows a slight general tendency towards decreasing while pork prices are the reverse according to the re report re- re port Other articles which are shown on I the downward trend for this month are salmon evaporated milk lard eggs i I corn flakes baked beans and bananas The well known navy bean now that the war is over remains stable while potatoes have increased one- one tenth of bf a cent General conditions throughout the United States are practically the same it is reported Taken generally the greatest increase Is shown in cabbage which jumped 72 per cent In April 1919 the cost of all articles of food combined was 18 per cent more than in April 1918 Onions were per cent higher than a year ago Other articles showing an Increase are Butter Butter Butter But But- ter and potatoes 41 percent per cent prunes 32 per cent coffee 28 per cent cheese 23 per cent and sugar and eggs 16 per cent each I |
