Show I o Sports Here and There by Al Ablett Well, fellows, haven't had a column for some time, but here I am, back again, and with something some-thing to tell you. In the Salt Lake City tournament tourna-ment one of our boys was the star: Frank Zaccaria won the singles championship with a big 663 series. That is a 221 average for his three games, and believe me that is bowling. Zac had a 244 opener, came back with a 225 and in his last game had 194 without a double. Just to show how a champion should short he picked the 4-7-7 split in the last game to stay ahead of Ray Cro-mar Cro-mar who had a 655. Two other Bingham boys finished fin-ished in the money, as Jim Ab-planalp Ab-planalp and George Abplanalp took second in the doubles. So in the state round robin and state association tournaments I am sure Bingham bowlers will be heard from. After the first of the year team matches will start. Hope to have some of them on the club lanes. The Gemmell league is enjoying enjoy-ing its best year. The Sunset team is leading with Copperton, Gemmell and Jaycee following in that order. Among the new bowlers Herb Babcock is carrying carry-ing a good average. Herb has an effective ball. With more practice prac-tice he will develop fast. In pre-season basketball the Bingham high school team looks good. They have had two games and won both easily. Delmar Schick has been moved to the guard line and has starred in both games. Last Friday the Miners played Wasatch and won 38-32 and in doing it showed exceptional ex-ceptional polish for so early in the season. Coach Warren G. Allsop is using everyone on the squad and I think the five he picks for his starters will give a very good account of themselves. By next week we may be able to give you a better line on who is who on the team. So until then, don't forget the Sixth war bond drive and that a good buy is a war bnod. AL O |
