Show Settlers Ask Protection. A large cumber of settlers in tbe locality Indlcntcxl have signed tbe following petition, Wlllrh reached Governor Thomas on Saturday last, and will bo laid before the proper officials at Wa'blngton,by him: We, tbe undersigned, residents of the counties of baa Joan and liraod, Utah Territory, respectfully represent to voir Excellency that the above ntmed rountlc?( and especially wba : Is known as tbe Mac Mountains, are overrun bv stragglers and bands of Ute IndUtM from tbe Uintah Reservation Reserva-tion in Utah, and the Fine Rid)ra Itea-ervation Itea-ervation In Colorado, and Navajo Reservation, Res-ervation, wboare committing aenous depredations and damage upon Lhe rmidcnU ot snid count!, and tteir property, viz.: Ily stealing horses, killing cattle on the range, telling produce from the fcirms. and killing gamo for the hides alone. Tbey are a cause of fear to tbe settlers, and f cr-nish cr-nish lnformttion. protection and as-sleance as-sleance to the thieves and outlaws Jn said counties, and are a menace and hindrance to tho offlcors of the law and their efforts to arrest and briag to justice said outlaws. In view of these facts and that these Indiana have no right to roam abont ofl thslr reservations, we most respetf ally ask for protectkin from them, and that tbey may be promptly relnmed to their proper reservations. |
