Judge Powers was near by at tbe time, and grasping tbe situation In bis magical manner saw that unless he Interfered Inter-fered Mr. Transient (7) would probably prob-ably be prevented from casting a ballot and one vote less scored for the angelic writer aud philosophical reasoner of the Liberal" party. Everybody in general, and policeman Pool iu particular, par-ticular, received a round of ahue from tho silver-tongued political wire-worker from Michigan. Oath after oath, with such epithets as "scrub," "ignoramus," "as," and tbe like, were applied to tho officer. The policeman's name, numberand station, were taken by Ml. Powers, that ho might be called to account for his actions, or dis-ch dis-ch trged from the service on the return re-turn of Marshal Young, as his majesty might see fit. When the gentleman In uniform, with a long club in his band, wasasked why he lid not arrest Mr. Powers for profanity pro-fanity and disturbing the peace, he heaved a sigh and shook his head. |
