Tin: act of CougrvM "making appropriations for sundry civil expenses ex-penses of the government for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1S91, and for other rttrjioses," contains some provisions that are of special Interest to tho people of the West. Among them are the following: "For topographic surreys In various vari-ous parts of the Unite. State, three hundred and twenty-firo thousand dollar, one half of which sum shall be expended west of tho one hundredth hun-dredth meridi in; and so muehoftbe art of October second, eighteen hundred hun-dred and eighty-eight, entitled -n aci making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of tho government for tho fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, and for other purposes," as proildos for tho withdrawal of the imbUc lands from entry, occupation and settlement. Is hereby repealed, and all entries made or cUimi initiated In good faith and valid but for said act, shall be recognized recog-nized and may ba perfected In the same manner as if a!d law had not been enacted, except that reservoir sites heretofore located or selected shall remain segregated and reservod from entry or settlement as provided by said act, until otherwise provided bylaw, and reservoir sitsa hereafter located or selected on public lands shall In like manner be reserved from tho uato of tee location or selection thereof. "Ho person nhoshall after the passage pass-age of this act. enter upon auy of tho public lands with a view to occupation, occupa-tion, entry or aottlement und-r any of the land laws ahall bs permuted to acquire title to more than three hundred hun-dred and twentyacrea in the aggregate. under all of said laws, bat tnUliml'a-tlon tnUliml'a-tlon shall not operate to curtail tha right of any person who has hereto-fore hereto-fore mads entry or settlement un tha public lauds, or whose occupation, entry or settlement, U validated by this act; Pron-Jol, That in all patents for laad hereafter taken up under any of the bind laws of the United Stales or on emnes or claims validated by this act wet of tha one hundredth meridian. It ahall be expressed that there Is reserved from tha Lands la said ratent described, a right of way thereon for ditchea or canals conitruct-ed conitruct-ed by the authority f the United States." The act was approved on the 30th day of last August. |
