Show SPEXCE-ROSSITER EXCURSION Tho Parly llaro a Plcaunt Orer-land Orer-land Trip. New Vobk C'itV, June 7tb, 1EM. Correspondence or the Deseret News. JIany of your readers, doubtless, have friends in the S pence & Rossitcr European Excursion which left Salt Lake City Saturday morning, -May 31st, 1S93, and they would probably be glad to hear a Jlttlq. concerning the Journey to New York. I will, therefore, give a brief account of the trip for their benefit. The excursion was divided Into two pails. One left Salt Lake City on the Union PaciS&TAillroad, and the other on thu Rio Grande Western West-ern Railroad. I took the latter route, and cannot, therefore, say anything 1c relation to tlie trip over the Union Pacific Railroad. All met, however, at Kansas City, and from that thriving place journeyed together. A start was made from the R. Gx W. Depot at about 11 o'clock on Saturday morning last. We traveled along the lino without passing anything any-thing particularly noteworthy until we reached Castle Gate. All had heard of the beauties) of Castle Gate, consequently we strained our neiks to git a gUnile of it. A fine view was obtained. It is indeed a grand sight. After whirl ing along some time, the Blaik Canyon was reached and entered. It would le useless for me, a poor hand at descriptive writing, to attempt at-tempt to loitray the graudeur and thesublime splendor of thu scenery along this road, from Castle Dile to Puiblo. In fact, no one, though lie read the most able description of it, can gain an adequate idta of its magnificence, except he see it for himself. I will merely say, therefore, there-fore, that wc passed through the Black Canj on, traversed Uie tor-iulus tor-iulus pathway of tlie Marslial Pass, and endured a little stntchlng of the neck I n trying to oler e all the wonders of the Grand Canyon and thu Ro al Gorge. The heart of every admirer of nature must certainly rejoice, hen he beholds these marvels mar-vels of creation; and all tight thinking people must recognize in hem thu handiwork of the Great Creator. The train reached Puiblo Sunday evening. There w e took the Atchl-"oii, Atchl-"oii, Toiiekao: Sauta Fe Railroad for Chicago. This company very UudK furnished us a special chair car right through to Chicago, and tiie members mem-bers of the party w ere able to bo together to-gether nioru than they had been on the R, G .W. Not only this, but one of the company 's agents accom-ianiedu, accom-ianiedu, to sec that we got along itliout any difficulty, and he rvii-dered rvii-dered us very valuable assistance. This was a courtesy which all appreciated. ap-preciated. I-vavIug Puiblo Lite on Sunday evening, we passed through the States of Colorado aud Kansas. The country along this part of the route is mo'tly farming laud, apparently of a fertile character. It nas quite i conlrattjthough not an unpleasant one, to tho rugged and mountainous region we had just leiL Passlug through Kansas it was very warm and sultry, and the tra eler from Salt I-akc and vicinity felt rather uncomfortable, the atmosphere being be-ing morehumid than in Utah. Unarming ut Kansas City we were rvinfoni-d by that .portion of the excursion which had come via the Union Pacific. They arrived two hours before we did. With the increase ot our number, the A. T. t S. F. Co. did not slacken their attention at-tention to us on the journey from Kansas Citj t.. Chicago. An add! liuiial chair car was it on, and the wiiolecf thciarty were accommodated. accommo-dated. This road runs solid esti-bulc esti-bulc trains heatid by steam and Iighte-1 by electricity. We reached Chicago Tuesday afternoon. af-ternoon. Here we w ire met by tlie agents of the Chicago A Atlantic aud the New York, Lake Erie t Western two good road to travel on, as we found They did nil in their iower to tee that tho remainder remain-der of the journey should he pleasant and agreiable. All tho party de-lr-ed to vl.lt Niagara Falls, and ar-rangiment-i were male that this desire de-sire might lie grxlirieil. We remained re-mained in Chicago several hours visiting some of the joints of iu'er-tst iu'er-tst ill that wonderful place. Chl-e Chl-e go Is a great city. Its growth alncc the memorable fire has lueu marvelous. The citizens are very proud of tlielrcily, and not without reason. Wc traveled In good slj leall the way from Chicago to Jew Vork. We secured a car that suited us letter than anj thing n e so far had. We visited Niagara Fal,and stayed there three-fourths f a day, pending pend-ing nearly U.e wh-ilf of the Hille In vi-lting all the joints or int. ret around tliat remarkable and beautiful beauti-ful pUce. All felt that the time -iunt at the Falls was the li-Tt thing thi y had had on tlie trip. Tlie weather was line and quite warm, though the night previous it had rained very heavilv. But the drinking water there U abominable. It i hanl to find anywhere such water as can be had In Salt I-ake.
