It is said that tho loss of his wife's affections was the cause of bis taking to drink. The dispatch added: "He Is about 37 j ears of age, an J is a native of St. Catherines, Canada." it was at or near SI. Catherines, Canada, that all of Mr. Booth's troubles began. XewspajT readers will remember tliat General William Sooy Smith of this city, the head of the firm of civil engineers which bears the name of Sooy .Smith A Co., attacked the Rev. Oliver J. Booth on a train going from St. Catherines to Niagara, in the fall of lbS6. General Gen-eral William Sooy Smith was then a mau of about -10 years of age, and had been married about a year prior lo the incident Just related, re-lated, to Mi-s Josio Hartwell, the Idle of Catherines a pretty voung blonde of 20. The general, being wealthy, had bestowed the most magnificent presents njn his wife, but notwithstanding the attentions lavished uion her, she acted so Indiscreetly In-discreetly that she soon became very much talked about.
