Show SPRINGVILLE MAN COMMANDS FIRST . UTAH AIR RESERVE . . ,i The first Air Reserve reconnaissance reconnais-sance group; to be organized in the state of Utah was activated Saturday, April 26, and is to be commanded by Lt. Col. Blair M. Sorenson of Springville, according to a statement made toy Lt. Col. C. G. Winn, commanding officer of the Ogderi Air Reserve Attachment. Attach-ment. The activation of this group, which will be known as the 70th Reconnaissance Group of the 325th Wing, will facilitate the training of Utah Reserve pilots. The reservists reser-vists which will comprise this group will obtain their flight training train-ing at Hill Field, Col. Winn said. ' Col. Sorenson was named as the commanding officer of this new group because of his outstanding leadership ability. Present plans call for the activation of several squadrons which will be under his command. , Colonel Sorenson was born in Spanish Fork, Feb. 17, 1918, and 21 years later graduated from the Brigham Young University. He was commissioned a second lieutenant lieu-tenant in the Air Corps at Kelly Field, Texas, in May, 1940. He served overseas in the CBI where he won the silver star, distinguished dis-tinguished flying cross and the air I medal. |
