Show Armed Forces' Ixcal Army Man Given Promotion Merlin J. Mecham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Mecham of 96 East Center street, has recently re-cently been promoted to grade of technical sergeant at the 5th Replacement Re-placement Depot, located near Manila, P. I., where he is acting first sergeant of one of the replacement re-placement companies. Sgt. Mecham Mech-am was inducted into the ervice in January, 1943. and served in the Army Air Forces, training and serving in Arctic rescue work in Alaska. He was transferred to the Infantry early in 1945 and trained at Camp Howze, Texas. In early June, he arrived in Manila Ma-nila for overseas duty and was assigned to the 5th Depot. He is entitled to wear the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with one campaign star, the Philippine Liberation ribbon, Good Conduct ribbon, American Theater ribbon and the Victory ribbon. Harold J. Larsen Beleased From Navy Harold J. Larsen has returned to his home here and is out of the Navy. He has been in the service . two years, with 21 months spent in the South Pacific. He called at the Herald office to express his thanks for the Herald which he received while in the service. Ronda Jenkins Home From Army Ronda Jenkins returned home this week from the South Pacific and has been given his discharge. He has been in the service since June, 1942 and has a record of over one year overseas. He was in the European theater for nine months and later went to the South Pacific where he was stationed three months. He has the European Euro-pean and Asiatic Theater of Operations Op-erations ribbon, the latter with two battle stars, also the American Defense ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the Victory medal. Lyman Madsen Home On Leave Lyman Madsen Y 1c, is home on a 15-day leave from the Navy. He has been stationed at Wild-wood, Wild-wood, N. J., and is to go to San Francisco, Calif, at the end of his leave and expects to be given a discharge. He will be accompanied to California by his wife, the former for-mer Thonna Holt. Robert Turner Given Discharge Robert Turner has been given a discharge from the Navy after 39 months of service, and has returned re-turned to his home here. His wife is the former Marie Kappas. He served in the South Pacific for 30 months and was on shore patrol in California three months. A twin brother, Richard Turner, also recently re-cently received his discharge. Paul Jones Joins The V. S. Navy Paul Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas' W. Jones, has joined the Navy and is now taking his boot training in San Diego, Calif. A brother, Raymond Jones, is in the Marine. Reserves, and stationed sta-tioned at the main property offices at Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif. Bert Lucas Given Navy Discharge Bert Leas, F 1c, in the Navy, has been given a discharge and returned to his home' last week. He has been in the service since May, 1944, stationed most of the time at Pearl Harbor. His wife is the former Fern Black of Payson. Lt. Hoyt Baxter Given Discharge During his leave, he called at the Herald office to express his appreciation for the home-town paper. |
