Show Harvesting Beets on Mapleton Farm ... f . - - - , - ' ' y - 1 Mechanical harvesting on the Oscar Whiting farm at Maple-ton Maple-ton saves time and labor and makes harvesting more economical. eco-nomical. Here a Harvester unloads after a'round through the Whiting field. These beets were processed at the West Jordan Jor-dan factory of the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, Salt Lake County. Standing at the left are Byron Haderlie, U and I district fieldman, and Mr. Whiting. This field had a yield of better than 20 tons of beets to the acre and is an example of success suc-cess from ridge cover planting after afirst seeding last spring failed to produce a stand of beets. Under circumstances, circum-stances, such as having to replant, this yield is considered very good. Authorities stress the importance of early planting plant-ing to give beets a longer growing season and to make way for replanting in case of failure in the first stand. |
