Show Sports Events" 15 YEARS AGO The Third Ward M Men took undisputed un-disputed possession of first place in the M Men league by defeating the First Ward last week, 6 to 4. Bill Wilkin again bettered the state mark with the shot when he tossed it 48 feet 5 inches, at the county meet. Dick Boorman captured cap-tured first in both the century and the 220-yard dash. Roundy also placed in the javelin. Paul Thorn, athletic director at the Springville high, tendered his resignation from the school Monday. Mon-day. Thorn, who has had unusual success with his teams since taking tak-ing over the coaching reins three years ago, will go into the general contracting business. First Ward Elders and the Poultry Poul-try teams are tied for the lead in the city softball league, with 3 and 2 wins, respectively, and no losses. The American Legion and Black Hawk committees are jointly planning plan-ning a big fight card for the 19th. |
