Show Motorists Test Device For Testing Gasoline Tests to determine whether motorists can be "sold" on a device de-vice which makes" a super-fuel out of ordinary gasoline are now being made on a commercial scale. The device, produced by a Mid-Western Mid-Western manufacturer, injects a solution or alcohol, water, and tetraethyl lead into the gasoline flowing from a car's carburetor to the engine whenever the engine en-gine begins pulling hard. Tests made by taxi operatprs indicate that the injection makes ordinary gasoline burn like premium fuel. Oil Companies Aid Three oil companies in Columbus Colum-bus O., have joined the manufacturer manufac-turer in tests to determine public pub-lic reaction. The oil industry is interested because success of the device would help conserve the nation's petroleum supplies by enabling motorists to use low-octane low-octane gasoline. Petroleum yields more of low-octane gasoline than it does of high-octane fuel. The industry believes the device de-vice will work successfully if the public can be induced to buy it used for the injections. |
