Show City Sets Hearing On Proposed Zoning Townspeople Urged To Make Thorough Study Of Recommendations And To Attend Public Hearing Monday, Sept. 23, City Hall i All property owners and citizens within the city limits are urged to be present at a public hearing on a proposed zoning ordinance, the meeting being called by the city council coun-cil for Monday evening, Sept. 23, at 7 p. m., in the City Hall. S ' A map showing the recommendations recommen-dations of the zoning commission will be displayed at the meeting and is on file at the office of the city recorder so that anyone may make a study of the proposed zoning, zon-ing, until the date of the hearing. The zoning commission recently called two meetings at which the proposed ordinance was explained and no opposition was presented at either meeting. 'However, since the meetings, a petition has been circulated asking that Fourth South street be designated as part of the business area, and a number num-ber of people on that street have signed the peitition. It is pointed out that a full explanation ex-planation of results of such a change in the proposed zoning should be made. Should this street be designated as a business area, a service station, a garage, an auto salvge yard providing a six-foot six-foot fence was erected around it, and many other types of business structure could be placed on any vacant property on this street; It is further pointed out that such structure on the street would not add to the appearance of such public buildings as the high school art building or the high school and seminary. Such matters should be given serious thought before petitions are signed, it is stated. It is also pointed out that taxes could be assessed against the property prop-erty on this street the same as that in the business or main street district. The zoning commission made a thorough study of the needs of the city before submitting the proposed pro-posed ordinance and it is now up to the city to decide if the recommendations recom-mendations are carried out. It is the duty of all citizens interested in-terested in the zoning of the city to attend the public meeting. It will be too late after the ordinance is passed to express personal desires. |
