Show Beautiful Church Wedding Unites Miss Mendenhall, Mr. Child In Marriage ALPH A BETA TO MEET FRIDAY Members of the Alpha Beta club will meet Friday, September 2 7, at the home of Mrs. A. O. Packard. Pack-ard. All members are invited to be present. Before an improvised altar of palm leaves and cut roses built over an open fireplace. Miss Shirley Shir-ley Mendenhall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Mendenhall, became be-came the bride of Jack L. Child, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Child, Friday evening, in the Fourth ward church, with Bishop Andrew Peterson of the Spring-ville Spring-ville First ward officiating. Immediately following the wedding wed-ding ceremony, approximately 200 relatives and friends were in attendance at-tendance at a reception honoring the young couple. The charming bride wore a beautiful gown of white brocade satin en train with a full length veil caught to her head with a tiara of seed pearls. She carried a bride's bouquet of pink roses and regal lillies. Bridesmaids were the Misses Kathleen Metcalf, Merlyn Mendenhall, Men-denhall, Springville, and Lela Mendenhall of Richfield, who were attired in models of pastel blue, green, and pink net, respectively. The matron of honor was Mrs. Marie Fisher, and she wore a flowered silk gown. All wore corsages cor-sages of roses tied with satin ribbons rib-bons in matching shades with thpir Hrpssps GLEAXERS INITIATE NEW .MEMBERS AT CEREMONY At impressive candelight ceremonies, cere-monies, new members were initiated ini-tiated into the Second ward Gleaner class at a "Comraderie" held Tuesday evening in the Second Sec-ond ward. The new members are Jane Strong, Carma Crandall, Shirley Bagley, Zella Hales, and Lula Fox. Hostesses Erma Tuttle, Mary Boyer, Merle Fletcher and Cleone ! Fox served refreshments to ap-i ap-i proximately forty people, including includ-ing as special guests Mrs. Ruby Christensen. stake Y. W. M. I. A. president; Merlene Tew, stake Gleaner leader, and Mrs. Margaret , Miner, Second ward Y. W. M. I. A. president. The ward teachers, Mrs. Ina Ottesen and Mrs. Lera Cook, outlined out-lined the work for the coming year, and Beth Anderson and Merle Fletcher gave augmentary comments. Mrs. Christensen and Miss Tew also gave short talks. ! In the receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Mendenhall, parents par-ents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. William Child, parents of the groom, the bridesmaids, the best man, Howard Jenkins, ushers Kay Mendenhall and Lamar Averett, flower girls Beverly Child, Colleen Col-leen Child, Mary Ellen Mendenhall, Menden-hall, all of Springville, and Mary Elaine Mendenhall of Richfield, and a miniature couple dressed as bride and groom. The little bride wore a white satin dress with a fingertip veil caught to her head with roses, and she carried a nosegay nose-gay of tiny rosebuds. Mark and Betty Hoover were the little bride and groom, and they led the wedding wed-ding procession. Mrs. Mendenhall chose a beautiful beau-tiful gown of orchid velvet and Mrs. Child wore black velvet. Both wore corsages of gladioli and roses. The little flower girls wore pastel formals with corsages of tiny rosebuds and carried baskets of roses. At the door, the Misses Nida Mendenhall, Lynette Madsen and Marylynne Clark, in red satin military mil-itary costumes, welcomed the guests, and Dixie Gabbitas, Norma Roylance, Louise Averett and Na-dine Na-dine Child, all attired in pastel formals, received the gifts. Mrs. Verl Child, Mrs. Bert Child, Mrs. V. C. Mendenhall, Mrs. Arvil Child and Miss Carma Mendenhall Men-denhall were the ladies in charge of the gift room, and Mrs. Jay LADIES LITERARY TO MEET TONIGHT Mrs. V. C. Mendenhall will be hostess to members of the Ladies Literary club at her home this evening. A review of the book, "Mrs. Miniver," by Jan Stevens, will be given by Mrs. C. G. Salisbury, to feature the program. STRONG-PETERSON NUPTIAL PLANS ANNOUNCED Announcement is made this week of the approaching marriage of Miss Lucille Strong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Strong, to Carl Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Peterson. The marriage is planned to take place Wednesday, October 2, in the Salt Lake temple. A reception is planned honoring honor-ing the young couple Thursday evening in the Second ward church, as well as other social events. Mr. Peterson filled an L. D. S. mission in Hawaii and has attended attend-ed the U. S. A. C. Miss Strong has been attending Brigham Young university. Both are graduates of the Springville high school. Madsen was the presiding hostess for the evening. From a table covered with a gorgeous linen cover, centered with roses, and with pastel pink and green tapers in crystal candelabra can-delabra at either end, refreshments refresh-ments were served under the direction di-rection of Enid Ewing, Maurine Child, and Erma and Elma Patrick. Pat-rick. All of the rooms were decorated with beautiful fall flowers and fall-colored leaves in profusion, as well as varigated cut roses. The program, during the evening eve-ning was conducted by Howard Mendenhall of Richfield, who was master of ceremonies, and included includ-ed a violin solo, "My Hero," by Melba Merritt; a reading by Mrs. Ella Reynolds, and a vocal solo by Sterling Bush of Provo. During the evening many beautiful beau-tiful gifts were presented to the young couple. The newlyweds plan to leave soon on an extended honeymoon through Glacier National Park, Waterton Lakes, Lake Banff, and other places of interest en route to Raymond, Alberta, Canada. They will make their home in Lehi. |
