An interesting book, "Escape," was reviewed by Mrs. Floss Phillips. Phil-lips. Helen Palfreyman entertained entertain-ed with vocal solos and Miss Grace Parker gave Beveral violin selections. select-ions. She was accompanied by Bess Mendenhall. A' delicious tray luncheon was served by the hostess following the program. The guest of honor received many beautiful and useful wedding wed-ding gifts. Most of them are now in exile as ambassadors. t.VI.PHA P.ETA KXTKRTAIXKD AT PROVO HOME Alpha Beta Club members were entertained Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. David Reece in Provo. Mrs. Milan Straw was in charge of the afternoon's program which featured a trip to South American countries with Lee Valentine, instructor in-structor in the Spanish department depart-ment of the Brigham Young university, as guide. The subject was "International Relations With our Countries on the South." Mr. Valentine also sang two Spanish folk songs and told of the customs cus-toms and economic conditions of South American countries. Club ladies sang, "America," and Mrs. Emil Ostlund led the entire group in "Collect." Miss Jean Reese gave two readings. In conclusion to the interesting interest-ing program, dainty refreshments were served to members and guests. DIXXER PARTY KXTERTAIXS FRIENDS Charming in every detail was a dinner party held at the home of Miss Ha Clyde Saturday evening. even-ing. Guests were seated at one long table centered with pink carnations, carnat-ions, and attractive cards marked mark-ed places for twelve guests. Following the dinner, miscellaneous miscel-laneous card games were played. In attendance were Lois Johnson, John-son, Mary Louise Wingate, Helen Nelson, Laverne Sanford, Earl Childs, La Celle Brammall, Bob Burt, Newell Lambson, Grant Clyde, Gene Bird, Barbara Yanc of Rock Springs, Wyoming and weak-end (house guest of Miss Clyde. W. H. REARDALL HOXORED AT PARTY An oyster supper was enjoyed Saturday night by descendants of the late W. H. Beardall, in special observance of the seventy-first seventy-first anniversary of his birth. Mr. Beardall has ninety-one descendants, forty-seven grandchildren grand-children and seventeen great grandchildren. Those in attendance were: Mr. and Mrs Heber Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Beardall, Mr. and Mrs. Oran Beardall of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Beardall, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Beardall, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth Beardall, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Paxman, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Beardall, and Joe Beardall. ROOK OF MORMON CLUB HEARS BOOK REVIEW Mrs. Mercedes Anderson, in interesting in-teresting and entertaining manner, man-ner, reviewed the book, "Children of God," by Vardis Fisher at a meeting of the Book of Mormon club held Sunday evening after sacrament meeting at the home of Fern Ostler. Following the book review, which was especially interesting to the group, refreshments were served to twenty-five members and guests. HOME CIlLTCTtE CLUB TO MEET FRIDAY Mrs. W. H. Anderson will be hostess to members of the Home Culture Club at her home, Friday, Fri-day, March 1, at three p.m. All members are urged to be in attendance. MRS. ROWLAND HOSTESS TO 9. T. CLUB MEMBERS S. T. Club members were entertained enter-tained Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Amasia Rowland. Luncheon was served early in the evening to eleven club members, mem-bers, and Mrs. Philda Finley as a special guest, following which contract bridge was played with high score prize being won by Mrs. Gwen Baxter, and second prize by Mrs. Melba Pennington. MISS MERLYN MENDENHALL HOSTESS TO NOVELTY CIRCLE A delightful evening was spent last Thursday evening by members memb-ers of the Novelty Circle at the home of Miss Merlyn Mendenhall. Luncheon was served with a red and white color scheme prevailing pre-vailing in decorations, following which the girls enjoyed social conversation. Present were Hazel Bray, Ar-l.ene Ar-l.ene Hatch, Fay Ferguson, Helen Tipton, La Vern Hone, Yvonne Child, La Rhea Nielson, Jane Strong, Lorraine Daly, Alice Riding, Rid-ing, and the hostess. PROFESSOR NELSON OF B.Y.U. TO TEACH PIANO IN SPRINGVILLE Professor Elmer E. Nelson, teacher of piano at the Brigham Young University for over twenty twen-ty years is opening a studio for half a day each week in Springville. Spring-ville. The studio will be located at the hame of Carl O. Nelson, who is a brother of Professor Nelson. The school house destroyed, nn Oregon town is building1 a shed for classes, and the boys hope its use will be limited to that purpose. Scientists predict that in the not distant future smashed atoms will run battleships, but in the meantime an unsmashed one is running Germany. |
