l thAt th-At the general annual conference held In Hawkes Bay District last April it was thought advisable to hereafter hold too conferences duro Ingthe year In order to give those I who live at tile extreme ends of the Island an opportunity of attending these meetings which otherwlu would be Impracticable as thu distance dis-tance to be traveled would bring unnecessary un-necessary hardships both to the Elders and tho Saints In general Accordingly it wits decided 1 to have general semiannual meetings one to be held in tile southern and one lu the northern part of the bland at such places as would be most con vcnient to thu greatest number of Saints It was therefore agreed by he natives In whose hands the sc ectlon of the next place for meeting had been left that Ilakaniangam anga Waikato District would bt a suitable place for such conference Itakaniangaraanga Is a pleasant ittlu village situated on thu bank of the Walkato river and on Jan 7 the Saints began to come in from he called to order by Brother John S BIngham Af ter singing and prayer the asstmb hag vas addressed by President Wright who expressed his pleasure at meeting with the native Saints said he fet much Joy in his labors In the minUtry spreading the true Gospel of Christ among mankind He thanked the Saints of Waikato for so generously providing for this gathering and with words of exhor lotion encouraged the Saints to be Sints b faithful in serving the Lord They In would then surely receive His bless ery satisfactory reports were made by tire presidents I from the ad = dk joiningdistricts i showing that the natives are desirous of remaining firm to tire principles of truth ai hlch have been taught them and though there o tome who gbe way to temptation and folly yet there Is a marked change for chanl good in the go Saints They exhibit a true repentant pentant spirit and desire to live In obedience to the laws of God The afternoon and evening were occupied occu-pied by the Elders wh gave many good words of counsel and advice on the principles of the G p bearing strong testimonies to thc truth of the work In which we a engaged eng tholltb the morn Ing was devoted to speeches from the natives who addressed the meeting In a very pleasing and instructive in-structive manner giving their reasons rea-sons for becoming Latterday Saints and for it ho hope that is within them and desiring of whore Brother 3111 ton Benuion bore his testimony in the Maori tongue having only bccu on the Island one montll thus showing the goodness of God In bestowing l gnl fS upon His children who serve Rim and obey His commandments We also had several quartettes from the Eden sUtersand they were highly appreciated The new appointments were then read They skewed but few changes as it had been thought
