SURVEY REVEALS SCHOOLS WEAK IN VITAL SUBJECTS A re-testing of educational values val-ues has come with the impact of war and leaders of twenty-eight thousand secondary schools in the country have been impressed with two weaknesses in our educational system. These weaknesses relate to important im-portant subjects mathematics and geography. A recent report indicates indi-cates that sixty-eight per cent of college freshmen who took the tests for navy ensigns were unable un-able to pass the arithmetic test. The failures were not border-line cases but far below the passing grade. A shortage is also seen in the fundamental knowledge of geography geo-graphy and the government is now using the facilities of a university to train groups of officers in this needed subject in a war that stretches around the world.
