Show TOLERANCE Tolerance is defined as "the disposition to be patient and indulgent indul-gent toward those whose opinions or practices differ from one's own." There is nothing wrong with this definition of the word that is the battlecry of various minorities in the United States. Why the minorities do not practice tolerance toward the majority is not clear. A minority group, based upon a religious, economic or racial cleavage, will demand that the majority about them "respect" their rights and permit them to act as they think best for themselves. It might be a good idea for these factions to grant the same privilege to the majority. Too often the cry of "tolerance" is raised by those who want more than their just share of power and seek to impose their views upon the majority that, under normal conditions, determines the 1. . f o. 1 |
