Show C. of C. Hears Complaints of Student Shop-Lifting, Vandalism; Meeting Set i So prevelant has become the practice of petty thievery and shop-lifting by young people in this area, that the Provo Chamber of Commerce invited Sterling E. Price, Springville Chamber of Commerce president to Provo on Tuesday afternoon to try and work out a plan to stamp out such acts. The Springville Chamber of Commerce president was told that only recently young people from Springville, Orem and Provo had been apprehended shop lifting in Provo stores. The practice, they stated, has become alarming and something must be done. One youth said that she had been required re-quired to "take", so much from stores to qualify for membership in a school organization. Not only shop-lifting, but vandalism in various var-ious forms, also speeding, were other acts for which students are being apprehended, it was stated. In an effort to do something about the problem, which seems to be an inter-city one, an invitation is being given school principals from the various cities and student1 stu-dent1 body officers to meet at 6 p.m. at the Flumingo Club on Wednesday, October 15, at 6 p.m., to discuss means of solving the problem. Later the group will be invited to attend the Community Industrial Indus-trial Conference at the Smith Building at 8 p.m. Mr. Price said he hoped some method or plan may be devised to discourgae young people from engaging in shop-lifting and vandalism van-dalism and turn their interests and energies into worthwhile projects. |
