Show Grant School News By Virginia The Grant school sixth grade left the four walls of learning to gain some purposeful experiences. On May 10 at 8 a.m., we left for Salt Lake City. We were accompanied accom-panied by our home room mothers, Mrs. Ferron Hales, Mrs. Rex Shep-pard, Shep-pard, also Mrs. John Thorn, Mrs. Hugh Gates and Principal A. Le-roy Le-roy Erickson. Our first stop was at the HiLand dairy at Murray. This dairy is very sanitary and has all the up to date machines. We learned about pasteurization of milk, homogenization, making of cottage cheese and ice cream. Bottling of milk, sampling and testing of milk. The large storage tanks held as many as 5,000 gallons gal-lons of milk. We all enjoyed a free milk nickel. From the Dairy we motored up to the capitol building. Mrs. Shroe- der was a very gracious guide. She explained to us the pictures, the marble, the statue of Massasoit. We were especially interested in the gold room to see the furnishings furnish-ings and the mirrors. In the house of representatives we all took a seat and she explained to us how a bill becomes a law. To make it more interesting she had Douglas Turner act as speaker of the house, John Dougall and David Gabbatas as sargents at arms. We also visited the Senate and passed by the supreme court. The organ recital was very interesting in-teresting to all. Alexander Schrein-er, Schrein-er, famous organist, was at the console. At KSL-TV we saw many interesting inter-esting things. Dottie Brown was practicing for a TV show. We also saw Margaret Masters kitchen, Better Living Electrically, Marshall Mar-shall Dan's Sagebrush Playhouse, etc. Last but not least we visited Liberty park where we had fun on some of the rides. Don Zimmerman, Zimmer-man, our very nice bus driver accompanied ac-companied us. |
