J events Monday with the Memorial Day racing program. Under the auspices of the Utah Racing Association, Spring Acres will bring the meet here and those in charge said Wednesday that every detail has been arranged for the finest of racing entertainment. Concessions ar e being handled by the Jaycees. New enthusiasm can be felt at the stables where every stall is filled with the finest thoroughbreds ever to be stabled on the track. To horse racing fans, they will be interested to know that many of the favorite campaigners are back including Howes Step, Riche, Kings Daughter, Fair O Doon, Pel-mers Pel-mers Pal, Oliver A, Nebo Chief. They will be challenged by new blood in such horses as Queen High, Bing K, Primulet, Fary Dale, and others. As a special treat, Miss Utah (Maurine Parker of Og-den) Og-den) will be on hand Memorial Memor-ial Day (Monday) to present the big horseshoe of flower to the winner of the feature Memorial Day race. Also as a feature, the Jaycees are co-sponsoring co-sponsoring a special race for work horses 1500 lbs. or over. The race will be l8 mile and entries from the Jaycees, 20-30 club, Chamber of Commerce, Lions, VFW and possibly from Hobble Creek Riding club, will , 1)6 ridden by either the presidents presi-dents of the club or a member.! mem-ber.! Friday, besides the regular feature fea-ture race, which is a part of the every day meet, the following horses hor-ses have been nominated for the Springville Jaycee Handicap race, distance 5 furlongs: Queen High, Oliver A, Miss Chatter, Mio Ace, Bing K, Palmers Pal, Jerry. Dale, Riche, Primulet, Woodside View. Hoped to be seen in the feature race Friday is Woodside View, imported thoroughbred stallion from Ireland for $37,000 as a 2-year-old. He has won many handicaps handi-caps at Santa Anita and Hollywood Holly-wood Park. On Saturday a special attraction will be the race down the stretch of 4 thoroughbred colts 1 month old to their mothers. Veterans both at Spring Acres, are Don Fredrickson, Jockey, who has run in several of the Spring Acres, racing meets in the past few years as well as the thoroughbred, "How's Step." Owned by Chad Heppler of Richfield, "Howe's Step" will be a popular horse at the meet since he recently won at the Los Angeles County Fair and other racing spots in the intermountain area. "Mio Ace", leading horse shown running at Sportsmans Park In Phoenix, Arizona and which will be competing against Howes Step in the coming race meet at Spring Acres. Mio Ace is owned by Dick Oakley and Perry Holley, former Mapleton resident now living in Ogden. |
