Show Baseball Spirit Revived as Local Batters Take Two Consecutive Ball Games Springville's long-lost interest in baseball is being-revived being-revived this season as prospects of a winning team looms. The local batters have won two games this week and according to recently appointed Manager Dee Sanford, the men are showing more spirit and enthusiasm than at any previous pre-vious time. On Tuesday the Nephi visitors were downed on the Springville field by a score of 3-2. : Eddie Holmes started on the mound for Springville and pitched a stand-out game, giving up only one run to Nephi. He was relieved in the fourth inning by Keith Christensen, who held the Nephi team in check and received credit for thei win. Sunday's Game In the other league game, Springville topped Spanish Fork 6-2 behind the 5-hit pitching of Brent Haymond. The winners jumped into a 3-0 lead in the first inning on- hits by Guy Bird, Jack Jones and Davei Oldroyd and were never seriously threatened. Games Scheduled Springville has two regularly scheduled games left to play. Monday at 5 p.m., the locals will meet American Fork at the lat-ter's lat-ter's field. Next Wednesday at 5 p.m., Springville meets Pleasant Grove in the final game of the season. Manager Sanford reports there is also a 8-8 tie game to be played with Pleasant Grove, which was called in the last of the eighth inning because of darkness. The game must be completed from the point reached. Springville will take the field in the last of the eighth inning with two men out, a man on second base and the score tied 8-8. The bame will procede from this point. |
